The Academy at FSU

The Academy at FSU is one of the best things I discovered after I retired.  I have become increasingly active in this organization.  Two years ago I taught a class.  This year I am serving as its President.

The Academy offers courses to interested adults twice a year.  Six courses are in each session and they last for six weeks.  Each class meets for two hours once a week.  Members can choose to attend any or all of the courses.  They cover a variety of subjects and are usually taught by university professors.

Once a week a guest lecturer is invited to to speak during lunch, a noon time lecture.  The lecturer is an expert on some business, cultural facility, community activity, or event.  Throughout the entire year the Academy offers field trips to special places of interest in the area and group attendance at social and cultural events.

The Academy also hosts a book club, a writers club, and a dulcimer group.  I have enjoyed my participation in each of these.
