St. Johns Episcopal Church

Here is where I have found my church home. St. John’s is an Orthodox, traditional AAC parish with a strong teaching ministry that focuses on the basic truths of Scripture.  It was founded in 1829. Although the original church burned down in a tragic fire a new church was reconstructed on the same site in 1888 and continues, with some restorations, to be our sanctuary of worship today.

Although St. John’s is a large parish, over 2000 families, it promotes individual involvement in small groups. This can be done through participation in any of its over one hundred ministries or educational programs.  The ministries fall into the broad categories of: Outreach, Pastoral Care, Worship, Evangelism and Hospitality, Renewal, Fellowship, Communications, Buildings and Grounds.  I have chosen Stephen Ministry and EFM and have provided more information about them.  Please follow the links to read more

The Christian educational program, through the Academy of St. Johns, provides lectures throughout the year by visiting scholars as well as a large variety of classes and courses on Sunday Morning and Wednesday evening.  There are classes for every age and interest level from pre-school through pre-heaven. Topics include Scriptural as well as Cultural and Social issues.

St. John’s is a downtown church and serves the business and government community in many ways. Noon worship is held daily Monday through Friday in the chapel.  St. John’s has a café that serves lunches that are unique and affordable in a convenient, relaxed atmosphere.  It is a wonderful gathering place for members of the community and parish to meet for good food and good company

The heart of St. John’s is worship and liturgy. The atmosphere in the sanctuary including the music, art and architecture, and adherence to the Book of Common Prayer encourage each person to give glory to God in celebration of the Eucharist.

I enjoy working as a receptionist at the offices for St. John’s one day a week. This is my friend Tina and me there.
