Welcome

Welcome to my personal web page where I share interesting news about my family and hobbies.  Feel free to visit any of the sections that interest you.  Links have been provided on the side bar for quick navigation.

I am a ‘sort-of’ retired ARNP (nurse practitioner) who specialized in psychiatry, pediatrics, and family health.  In addition to my being a SOGWPOW (Silly Old Grandma With Pictures On the Web), I am involved in a variety of activities.  I have provided  special sections to many of them including: Creative Writing, RV Travel, the Academy at FSU, Issues Related to Blindness and Guide Dogs, My Church and Spirituality, The American Red Cross, and Humor.

Please read on and explore the links or use the links in the side bar.  Like all websites, this one is continually under construction.  Come visit often to see the latest updates.

My family

I have been married to Dale Labitzke for ten years.  He is a chemical engineer by profession, and a wonderful loving husband by choice.  We each have our own unique interests and some wonderful ones that we share.  Dale has a web page devoted to his professional activities: http://www.born2process.com/.

On this site I will share with you some of the fun things we do together primarily focusing on our RV travels.

I have four adult children, one wonderful daughter-in-law, and three great sons-in-law.  Together they have given me four beautiful grandchildren and I  have much more information on this site about them.

My four grandchildren are Ashley, Vance, Sean, and Stephen.  Special sections are devoted to pictures of them and news of their activities and accomplishment.

Come on.  Click here to see more of the family.

RV and Travel

Dale and I love to travel and we have had many wonderful trips, especially in our RV.  In this section we hope to share some of our adventures with our family and friends, as well as tips, and things we have learned.

Out of sight

Out of Sight deals with issues related to blindness, vision loss, and guide dogs.  I lost my vision several years ago as a result of a stroke.  Thanks to my family, friends, guide dog, and excellent rehabilitation programs I have completely regained my life and I hope to be able to encourage others to do so also.

Creative Writing

I have always enjoyed writing, but it has only been in the past few years I have been able to get into it seriously.  This will give me an opportunity to share some of my short stories, memoirs, writing tips, and contributions from others.

Two of my favorite short story creations are A Long Walk, A Short Life and The Beautiful Green Hat.

Travel and adventures

Traveling has always been a part of my life.   Over the years, Mom, the kids, and I have enjoyed many adventures around the globe to typical tourist traps and more remote, off the beaten path destinations.

Dale has traveled extensively both for work and for fun.  Now we travel together.

Click here for more on the fun we have had traveling.

St. Johns Church

I attend St. John’s Episcopal Church and am involved in the life of my church and many worthwhile activities there that I would like to tell the world about.  Stephen Ministry and EFM are two of my favorites.

The Academy at FSU

This is a group of mature adults with an unquenchable thirst for learning.  Twice a year we have six weeks of classes on a variety of subjects from anthropology to zoology.  The classes are taught by university professors or other experts in their field.  There are many field trips, social, and cultural activities through the year.  The Academy also sponsors a Writers Club and Book Club.  I am very proud, and challenged, to be the president of this group for the 2004-2005 year.

Friends

“The making of friends, who are real friends, is the best token we have of a person's success in life.” --Edward Everett Hale.

If this is true, and I believe it is, I am one of the most successful people in the world.  My life has been filled with a few beautiful friends.   This is where I will share some of the wonderful stories about the extraordinary people in my life.

The American Red Cross

I am a volunteer for American Red Cross and as such do mental health counseling in disaster situations and teach many courses.  I am also active with the Florida State Wide Domestic Security Task Force.
